From ramen to Latin grills: the village's surprising food scene
Riebeek Kasteel may be small and rural, but its restaurants reach far beyond the farm kitchen.

You might expect a small Swartland village to offer mainly traditional farm food. And you can find that, at places like At's Eatery with its slow-cooked traditional dishes. But Riebeek Kasteel has a much wider range of flavours than its size suggests.
There is French cuisine at Au Bouchon Rouge, Mediterranean dishes at The Barn, Latin American flavours at La Parrilla and Mexican-inspired food at Rusty Cantina. Kamar Biru serves Indonesian food. In 2026 the village gained Saisei, a modern Japanese restaurant whose ramen has quickly drawn attention from food writers.
Part of the explanation is the village's mix of people. Riebeek Kasteel has long attracted artists, creatives and people moving out of the city, and they bring their own tastes and ideas. Local produce helps too: olive oil, wine, lamb and vegetables from the region end up on many menus.
For visitors, the result is easy: you can stay several nights and eat something different every evening, all within walking distance.
Remember to book at weekends, and check opening days. Many places close on one or two days a week.
