What to pack for a weekend in the Swartland
A short packing list for the Riebeek Valley, whatever the season.

The Riebeek Valley is relaxed and informal, so packing is simple. But the climate has its quirks, and a few items make your stay more comfortable.
For summer: light clothing, a hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen. Temperatures often reach the mid-thirties, and the sun is strong. Bring swimwear and sandals, and a light layer for the evening, when it can cool down.
For winter: warm layers and a rain jacket. Days can be pleasant in the sun, but evenings and mornings are cold and most of the rain falls between May and October.
All year: comfortable walking shoes for the farm trails, a water bottle, and a cooler bag for the wine and olives you will buy. If you plan to cycle, bring your own bike or check rental options in advance.
Check what your host provides before you pack. Most self-catering stays in the valley have fully equipped kitchens and Wi-Fi, and many leave coffee, tea and milk for your first morning.
