Who we are

Stay in Riebeek (stayinriebeek.co.za) is operated by Les Chambres (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/324331/07, 8 Piet Retief Street, Riebeek Kasteel, 7307, Western Cape, South Africa. Email: info@stayinriebeek.co.za. Our Information Officer under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is Harald Neumann.

What we collect

Booking requests: your name, email address, phone number (optional), travel dates, number of guests, your message and whether you agree to receive a review invitation.

Listing sign-ups and changes from hosts: contact details, details and photos of the property, booking-system links and calendar links.

Event tips and contact messages: what you send us and your email address if you give it.

Reviews: your first name, country, month of stay, scores and review text.

Visitor statistics: which pages are viewed, counted without cookies and without storing your IP address.

Why we use it

To pass your booking request to the host of the stay you chose, and to answer your questions.

To check, publish and update listings.

To invite you to write a review after your stay, only if you agreed to this when you sent your request.

To publish reviews (first name, country and month only) and the host's reply.

To keep the website secure and to understand how it is used.

Legal basis

We process personal information with your consent, to take the steps you ask for (such as forwarding a booking request), and for our legitimate interest in running a reliable website. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) these are Article 6(1)(a), (b) and (f).

Who receives it

The host of the stay you contact receives your booking request.

Our hosting provider (Hostinger) and our email provider store the website and messages for us.

When you view a map or the weather, your browser loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap and weather data from Open-Meteo; these services receive your IP address.

We do not sell personal information and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Transfers outside South Africa

Our service providers may store information outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA and the GDPR.

How long we keep it

Booking requests and messages: up to 24 months.

Host details: while the listing is online and up to 12 months afterwards.

Reviews: while they are published.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, object to its use or withdraw your consent at any time by emailing info@stayinriebeek.co.za.

You may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za). If you live in the EU, you may also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Cookies

We store your language choice in your browser (a functional cookie and local storage). When an owner signs in to the host dashboard, a strictly necessary session cookie keeps them signed in; it is deleted when they sign out, and after 12 hours at the latest. We use no other cookies: no advertising or tracking cookies.

Security

Forms are sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Submissions are stored in a part of the server that cannot be reached from the web.

We may update this notice. The date at the bottom shows the latest version.
